Comprehensive Accessibility for Every Need
We are your one-stop shop for converting electronic files into accessible formats. Our dedicated team excels at producing materials quickly without sacrificing quality. Place a stress-free order, and we will deliver your project right on time. We ship our hard copy materials anywhere within the United States.
Transforming Print with professional braille transcription
Taking a standard document and turning it into tactile text requires attention to detail. Our professional braille transcription team handles a wide variety of files. We can deliver your final product as an electronic braille-ready format (BRF) or emboss the materials as physical hard copies. Our in-house transcriptionists carefully format and proofread every page to guarantee total accuracy.
Clear and Readable Large Print Solutions
Sometimes, people do not read tactile text but still have difficulty with standard font sizes. Large print documents provide a perfect alternative. We format text, adjust spacing and increase font sizes so that your manuals, letters, and forms become completely readable for individuals with low vision.
Services Tailored to Your Audience
Every organization has different requirements when it comes to communication. We have developed specialized services to meet the specific demands of various industries.
Making Dining Inclusive with braille menus
Going out to eat should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience for all guests. When restaurants provide braille menus, they allow diners with visual impairments to independently browse the options and make their own choices. We work with restaurant groups to convert their food and drink lists into accurate, easy-to-read tactile formats.
Enhancing Education with braille textbooks
Schools and universities rely on us to make their classrooms more inclusive. Providing braille textbooks ensures that students with visual impairments have equal access to the curriculum. We have proudly worked with institutions like Princeton University and San Francisco State University to deliver high-quality educational resources right on schedule.
Navigating Spaces with braille signage and Overlays
Helping people navigate your physical space is just as important as providing accessible documents. We create tactile labels, graphic designs, and braille signage overlays for museums, conference exhibits, and public buildings. These small but meaningful additions make a massive difference in how independently your visitors can explore your facilities.
The Transcription Process Explained
We can convert almost anything into an accessible format. However, certain file types are much faster and easier to process. Knowing how to prepare your documents will help us deliver your final product even faster.
Understanding Braille Grades
When you request a project, you will need to specify the type of tactile text you want. There are two primary options you can choose from based on your audience.
- UEB Grade 1 Braille (Uncontracted) spells out every single word letter by letter. This format is exclusively used for beginners who are just learning how to read tactile text.
- UEB Grade 2 Braille (Contracted) is the standard format used in most situations. This version uses contractions to represent common letter combinations and words. Using contractions reduces the overall length of the documents and speeds up the reading time for experienced users.
What We Need to Get Started
For documents you wish to convert, the absolute best format to send us is a text-only Microsoft Word file. This allows our translation software to easily read and process the text.
When submitting a request, please provide:
- A document text in an MS Word file
- The type of text you need (UEB Grade 1 for beginners or UEB Grade 2 standard)
- The number of copies required
- Your desired turnaround time
Other document formats, like PDFs or images, are still convertible. However, they do not import well into translation software. These files may require extensive reformatting or manual retyping by our team. Our in-house proofreaders will happily handle the conversion of handwritten text, scanned images, and non-Word documents to get them ready for production.
